☀️🐾 Plan Ahead for This Week's Heat! 🐾☀️
With the heat index expected to be extremely high this week, we're making a few changes to help keep our shelter pets safe and comfortable.
Instead of longer outdoor walks, we need volunteers to:
🐶 Take dogs out into the grass for quick potty breaks.
🎾 Bring dogs into our Meet & Greet room for playtime, enrichment, and one-on-one attention.
📚 Spend some quiet time reading books to our cats—they love the company, and it helps shy cats relax and become more adoptable.
🍦 We'd also love your help making cool frozen treats for our dogs! Homemade treats (like the dog ice cream recipe we've shared) or other dog-safe frozen goodies help keep our pups cool, hydrated, and mentally stimulated during these hot days.
Every potty break, cuddle, game of fetch, story, and frozen treat makes a difference. ❤️
If you have a little time this week, we'd love to see you at the shelter!
📍 Evansville Animal Care & Control

Thank you for helping us keep our shelter pets happy, healthy, and cool during the summer heat! 🐾💜

🐾 A Reminder That Could Save a Life 🐾
Please never leave your pets in a parked car during hot weather—even for "just a minute."
🌡️ On a warm day, the temperature inside a vehicle can climb to dangerous levels in just minutes, even with the windows cracked. Dogs and cats can quickly suffer from heatstroke, organ failure, and even death.
❤️ If your pet can't go inside with you, the safest choice is to leave them at home where they're cool and comfortable.
🚨 If you see a pet trapped in a hot vehicle and in distress, contact local authorities immediately.
Let's work together to keep our four-legged family members safe this summer. Share this post to help spread the word!

🐾 Lil Skipper's Tips: Keep Your Best Friend Safe This 4th of July Weekend! 🐾
Did you know that more pets go missing over the 4th of July weekend than almost any other time of the year? Loud fireworks can frighten even the calmest pets, causing them to panic and run.
One of the best ways to protect your furry family member is by microchipping them. A microchip is a safe, permanent form of identification that greatly increases the chances of a lost pet finding their way back home.
✨ Microchipping at Evansville Animal Care & Control
🐶🐱 Only $25
🎁 Includes a FREE City License to help keep you in compliance with the city ordinance.
📅 Monday–Friday
🕙 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM
📍 815 Uhlhorn Street, Evansville, IN
📞 812-435-6015
Remember:
🎆 Fireworks are temporary.
❤️ A microchip lasts a lifetime.
Help make this Independence Day a safe and happy one for your pets! 🐾

I’m going to be honest with you… I truly thought today was going to be the day that I had no choice but to euthanize for space.
Yes, I said lots of prayers. I made countless phone calls. And I’m trying to be as transparent with our community as I possibly can.
You don’t see the number of dispatch calls we’ve received today—and they’re still coming. Dogs left in hot cars. Dogs left outside without shade or water. Loose dogs running at large. It has honestly been one of the busiest dispatch days we’ve ever experienced.
We were completely out of space.
We immediately started reaching out to our partner shelters, asking for help, and letting our volunteers and supporters know that we were bursting at the seams.
Then something incredible happened.
Families who had visited on Saturday came back to adopt. Others saw our plea for help and came in. Some stopped by just to spin the wheel and give one of our shelter pets a chance.
A huge thank you to Abby and Amy for all of their help this morning, and to Brock for spending the afternoon with us helping find fosters and assisting adopters.
Our team was absolutely PAWSOME today. They never stopped. They answered call after call, cared for every animal that came through our doors, helped adopters, worked with our rescue partners, and refused to give up even when the day felt overwhelming. I couldn’t be more proud of them.
Because of this amazing community, four dogs found homes today:
🐾 Ginny🐾 Tucker🐾 Lucky Charms🐾 Trigger
🐾 Bibble
We also had two wonderful rescue pawtners step up again:
❤️ Mozart and Cocoa Pebbles went to Warrick Humane Society. ❤️ Little Barney went to Vanderburgh Humane Society.
Today could have ended very differently.
Instead, because of all of you, it didn’t.
We are not out of the woods yet. Fireworks season is just getting started, and we know the next several days will continue to be challenging. Please keep your pets safely indoors, make sure they have identification and a microchip, and never leave them in a hot vehicle or outside without adequate shade and fresh water.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you to every adopter, volunteer, foster, rescue partner, and supporter who answered our call today.
Today was not the day.
And because of faith, an incredible team, amazing rescue partners, and a community that always seems to show up when we need you most… we are safe for another day. ❤️🐾

💔 I can’t even wrap my head around this.
When I first read this story, it brought tears to my eyes. Then those tears turned into pure anger. I cannot imagine anyone who calls themselves an animal rescuer believing this is acceptable.
Animals depend on us for safety, compassion, and care. They deserve dignity, kindness, and a chance to live—not fear and suffering.
Stories like this are heartbreaking, but they should also remind us why transparency, accountability, and responsible animal welfare matter so much. We all have a role to play in protecting those who cannot speak for themselves.
We have to do better. We have to treat animals better. They deserve nothing less. 🐾❤️
